Fayose’s Demand for Government Care Provocative, Shameful — Ekiti ADC

The Ekiti State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has condemned former Governor Ayodele Fayose’s demand for special care and benefits for himself and other former governors, describing it as provocative and shameful.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, and signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Rt. Hon. Olugboyega Aribisogan, the party said Fayose’s demand was selfish, greedy and grossly insensitive to the plight of ordinary Ekiti people.

The ADC said it was disappointing that such a demand was coming at a time when the state is grappling with serious economic challenges and the failure of the ruling elite to meet the basic needs of the people.

“At a time when pensioners are being owed gratuities and pensions, when our hospitals are in a derelict state and lack drugs, when pupils are dropping out of school due to hardship, and when ordinary citizens cannot afford one decent meal a day, it is morally reprehensible for political elites to demand more benefits for themselves,” the statement read.

The party noted that former governors like Fayose had already enjoyed huge severance packages, pensions and other privileges funded by taxpayers, describing the fresh demand as an insult to those who truly sacrificed for the state.

“There are hundreds of retired civil servants, teachers, nurses and local government workers who served Ekiti State diligently for 35 years and are now dying in poverty. They deserve government care more than former governors who served for only four or eight years,” the party stated.

The ADC stressed that leadership should be about service and sacrifice, not about what one can extract from the state after leaving office.

It called on Ekiti people to reject the demand in its entirety and urged Governor Biodun Oyebanji to channel all available resources to the welfare of workers, pensioners, farmers and the vulnerable masses.

The party also called on the Ekiti State House of Assembly to urgently review and repeal the law that provides jumbo lifetime pensions and benefits for former governors and their deputies at the expense of workers and other stakeholders.
