The Ekiti State Government has expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance observed during the February edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Chief Mrs. Tosin Aluko commended the high level of compliance witnessed in the state adding that this would serve as a model for other parts of the region.

The Commissioner who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Mr. Babatunde Alokan lauded the residents for their cooperation.

Hon Aluko assured that the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources would intensify its efforts to ensure that Ekiti State remains clean and free from diseases.

Aluko promised that as from next month, compliance would be better because, for obvious reasons, we did not involve the road traffic agency. They would be involved to cover boundaries, nooks and crannies in a bid to handle vehicular movement during sanitation”, she added

The Commissioner for Information, Rt Hon. Taiwo Olatubosun who also monitored the exercise in Ado Ekiti, emphasized the government’s commitment to intensify sensitization campaigns across the state.

Hon Olatunbosun stressed the importance of educating residents on the necessity of maintaining cleanliness in their environment.

He revealed that the government has provided all necessary logistics, particularly about the strategic location for Dino bins which is meant for the collection and dropping of refuse across the state”, the commissioner stated.

In his remark, the General Manager of Ekiti Waste Management (EKWMA), Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede explained the strategic placement of waste bins, particularly in market areas, highlighted efforts to enforce waste disposal regulations, including the installation of red zone ribbons to deter littering on medians and public spaces.

The Director of Environmental Services, Mr. Tunde Balogun, urged residents to abide by sanitation laws consistently.

He noted that approximately 35 individuals who violated these laws were apprehended and prosecuted in line with legal protocols.

The collective efforts of government officials and residents alike reflect a commitment to promoting a cleaner and healthier environment across Ekiti State.

As the government continues to prioritize sanitation initiatives, it aims to foster a culture of responsible waste management and community participation in maintaining cleanliness.
