Itawure / Erio Ekiti Road User Suffers, As Motorists Stranded For 5 Days

Motorists plying the Itawure to Erio Ekiti Road has encountered a 5 Days standstill on the road linking Itawure to Erio in Ekiti State just as all the people plying it have now been stranded. 

A phone call made across to the Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Ekiti State, Mr. Elijah Olusola Joseph by the Treasure Newspaper on Wednesday morning further confirmed the development that the road has been standstill for 5 days now.

According to the Sector Commandant, Mr. Elijah Olusola Joseph, he said, “he was on his way to location. He revealed that the State Government has already deployed one crane to the place to remove the falling articulated trailers from the road. That is the present situation. Our men from the Federal Road Safety Corps are also there trying to bring the situations under control”.

Continuing, the Ekiti FRSC stated “that the problem has been on for like a week now and the FRSC Officials have always been there to follow up the situations there. And that is the best they can do because I had engaged the Federal Comptroller of Works and I was told that they have awarded the contracts because it’s a Federal road”.

“He revealed that the Comptroller of Federal Works said the contract for the road has been awarded and that, the contractor is trying to mobilize to go and start work there”.

However, the Sector Commandant promised to do whatever his Command can do to control the traffic there.

He added that, he has also spoken to the Commissioner of Works and Transport in Ekiti State, through whom it was made open that the State Government was the one who deployed a crane to the location with the aim of removing the falling trailers on the road. 

Some of the stranded travellers that the Treasure Newspaper spoke to, lamented about the State of the road. 

According to a woman, Mrs Fisayo Omobanke she complained bitterly and narrated how herself and daughter have been on the road for three days without able to take their bath or get food to buy to eat.

Omobanke speaking further, said, “we have not been able to cross – over or passed through here. This is not good in a Country where we have authorities in place. We have been here for almost three days now without food and water with little children. What does the government wants us to do now?”, she asked.

She called on the government to do something urgently about the road. She declared that she is tired of Nigeria as a Country. “People coming from Ado Ekiti and going to Lagos cannot go further and those coming from Lagos and going to Ado Ekiti cannot also go anywhere again. We are standstill and stranded here for three days now. This is very unfair”, she ended.
