The Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Mining, Honorable Folawe Sipasi – Aluko has hailed the emergence of a former member of the House of Representatives in Abuja, who represented the people of Ile-Oluji / Okeigbo Federal Constituency, Dr Janet Adeyemi as the UNESCO Thematic Working Group on GeoHeritage for the Sustainable Development Goals.

Honorable Folawe Sipasi – Aluko in a statement personally signed and made available to newsmen in Akure on Sunday, revealed that Dr Janet Adeyemi also double as the President of Women in Mining in Nigeria, a feat which would afford her more opportunity to serve. 

Sipasi further revealed that Dr Janet Adeyemi has also been appointed to serve as a member of the International Geophysics and Geoparks Group, an organ of the UNESCO through a letter sent to her and signed by the Team Lead for UNESCO Project, Professor Silas Dada. 

Speaking further, Sipasi described Dr Janet Adeyemi as an expert in Engineering, Mining Governance and Sustainable Development at the International level.

Adding, Sipasi charged her to passionately leverage on geoheritage as a tool for economic empowerment, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation.

Continuing, the aide of the Ondo State Governor in charge of mining, Honourable Folawe Sipasi – Aluko stated that Adeyemi has done well by establishing the first Women in Mining in Nigeria (WIM Nigeria) organization. 

She revealed that her initiatives has helped to promote responsible mining, gender inclusivity, and community engagements, while working with international organizations, policymakers, and local communities, thereby reinforcing the belief that geoheritage can play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development goals, particularly in regions rich in geological history and resources.

Honourable Folawe Sipasi – Aluko however tasked Dr Janet Adeyemi to use her new position well by carrying out the roles giving her in integrating the geoheritage conservation with economic opportunities for local communities, and ensuring that heritage sites contributes to education, tourism, and sustainable livelihoods in the Country and beyond. 

She also described her membership of the UNESCO Thematic Working Group as a great opportunity for the people and government of Ondo State and Nigeria at large to benefit from expertise in policy advocacy, community-based resource management, and gender-responsive approaches to sustainable development.

Equally, the Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Mining, Honourable Folawe Sipasi – Aluko, who is also a member of the Women in Mining in Nigeria, WIM, pleaded with women in Ondo State to unite and show interest in joining the Association to sanitize and rid the State of the activities of illegal miners in the State.

Making her submissions, Sipasi revealed the full name of the founder of the Women in Mining in Nigeria to be Dr Janet Febisola Adeyemi. She added that the Women in Mining in Nigeria is an affiliate of the International Women in Mining. 

According to Honourable Folawe Sipasi – Aluko, she said, “Dr Janet Febisola Adeyemi had once served on the Strategic Development and Policy Implementation Committee of the 2016 Governor – Elect of Ondo State.

In addition, she also serve as Senior Special Assistant to the Presidency on National Assembly Matters during the President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
