Don Seeks Design Of Inclusive Agricultural Policies

… Urges More Focus On Climate Change

A Don at the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, BOUESTI who also doubled as the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics of the Institution, Professor Oluyede Adeleke Aturamu has sought the Federal Government’s support for the development and design of an inclusive agricultural policy and need to focus more on the issue of climate change to achieve more for the Country in the agricultural sector.  

The BOUESTI Professor of Agricultural Economics, Oluyede Adeleke Aturamu stated the above while delivering the first Inaugural Lecture of the Institution titled: “HARVESTING PROSPERITY: THE POWER OF SUSTAINABLE FOOD ECONOMICS IN NIGERIA.” on Tuesday at the Pre-Degree Lecture Theatre at the main campus in Ikere Ekiti.

Earlier, the first Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Victor Adeoluwa while presenting the guest lecturer, described the day and the event as an historic one.

He hailed the contributions of the guest lecturer and acknowledged the presence of key guests and family members of Professor Oluyede Adeleke Aturamu. 

During the lecture by Professor Aturamu, he emphasized on the need for government at all levels to pay more attention to climate change, considering it’s importance on the agricultural sector. 

He also emphasized on the need for stakeholders, both private and public to strengthen the working documents and policies that will help and assist citizens to engage in more agricultural productions in the Country.

According to Professor Aturamu, he also advocate the need to adopt a well coordinated and inclusive agricultural policy if a sustainable food economy would be achieved in the Country. 

Adding, he said, prioritizing environmental sustainability and economic equity is key in the restructuring of agricultural subsidies.

He explained how it is essential to adopt a chemical-based farming by subsidizing organic inputs, and embracing agroecology and climate practices. 

He also urged the government at all levels to reform the outdated land use act in the Country, by designing the most suitable and acceptable land rights for small farmers, which would make acquisition of lands for farming more easier.
