EFCC Partners DSS to Boost Surveillance Training for Lagos Operatives

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, has held a specialised surveillance and intelligence gathering training for its operatives on Friday, June 19, 2026, to strengthen investigative capacity and intelligence-led operations.

The Training was conducted in partnership with the Department of State Services, DSS, the programme highlights both agencies’ commitment to inter-agency cooperation, knowledge sharing, and professional development in combating economic and financial crimes.

In his welcome remarks, Acting Zonal Director of Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, ACE Adeniyi Adebayo, emphasized continuous capacity building as vital to professional excellence. Represented by DCE Ayo Oyewole, Head of Public Affairs, he stated that ongoing learning equips officers with the knowledge, confidence, and adaptability needed for an evolving operational landscape.

He urged participants to fully leverage the training and apply the skills to improve effectiveness in their duties.

Delivering a paper at the session, Deputy Director of Internal Security, Base Command, Lagos, DSS, Rasheed Akanji, described surveillance as essential to modern law enforcement. 

He noted its importance in crime detection, prevention, intelligence gathering, and prosecution, adding that security personnel must continually upgrade skills to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.

Speaking after the training, ACE II Ala Shehu, Head of Investigations, Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, called the initiative a strategic investment in human capital. He stressed that intelligence sharing, collaboration, and joint training are crucial for building resilient institutions capable of tackling economic crimes and broader security threats.

“When security and law enforcement agencies learn from one another and leverage their strengths, they create a more coordinated framework for combating crime and protecting society,” Ala said.

Participants described the programme as insightful and practical, noting it deepened their grasp of surveillance techniques and reinforced the value of intelligence-driven investigations.

The training is part of EFCC’s ongoing efforts to enhance institutional capacity, foster operational synergy, and improve crime-fighting effectiveness nationwide.
