EFCC Probes Enugu ‘Prophet’ Over Alleged N70.3m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has launched an investigation into Godwin Sunday Ajuluchukwucheya, also known as “Prophet Sunday Koboko,” over allegations that he defrauded members of his church of N70,391,600.

According to the EFCC’s Enugu Zonal Directorate, the probe began after a petition from Okey Uwakwe. 

LUwakwe claimed Ajuluchukwucheya posed as a genuine prophet and promised to spiritually compel his brother, who left Nigeria in 1997, to return home. For this, Uwakwe said he paid the suspect N6,231,400.

The petitioner further alleged he paid N3,251,200 for prayers to help his sister-in-law conceive after 15 years of childlessness. 

He also said Ajuluchukwucheya told congregants he had won N33 billion in a lottery but needed financial contributions from members to access the money. In return, he promised them dividends. Uwakwe reportedly contributed N3,349,000 toward this.

Another scheme involved a N1 billion rice processing machine investment. Members were urged to contribute and become partners. Uwakwe said he paid N500,000. In total, he claimed to have sent N13,331,600 to the suspect with no results.

As the investigation progressed, more church members came forward with similar complaints. One member described buying “holy ghost thunder” at N38,000 each. The suspect allegedly told them they needed 1,000 pieces to defeat a “spiritual army” organized by Baba Ijebu that was blocking his N33 billion lottery win.

Other “prosperity products” the suspect allegedly sold included miracle stickers and spiritual dragons. A victim stated: “He asked me to buy what they tagged holy ghost thunder, believing it was going to solve my problems. I bought it and after all the payments, nothing happened and my problems still persisted.”

The EFCC said the total amount members claimed Ajuluchukwucheya collected stands at N70,391,600. The commission confirmed he will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
