Ekiti Government Fumigates Dumpsites, Markets In Ado Ekiti Over Mystery Odour

The Ekiti State Government has embarked on large-scale fumigation of major dumpsites and marketplaces across Ado Ekiti, following public complaints over some mysterious odour that engulfed parts of the state capital on Saturday.
The State Director General, Waste Management Authority, Mr Sunkanmi Onipede who led the exercise on Sunday said the intervention was a proactive step to safeguard public health while investigations continue into the source of the smell.
Mr Onipede noted that Governor Biodun Oyebanji directed immediate action after residents raised concerns over air quality in areas some areas in Ado Ekiti.
According to the Director General Waste management Authority, the fumigation targets refuse collection points, open drains, and densely populated markets where poor waste disposal could worsen environmental hazards.
Also speaking during the exercise, the General Manager, Ekiti State waste Management Authority, Engr Adekunle Tawose explained that the state could not afford to wait before addressing possible public health risks, stressing that the government is working with environmental health experts to ensure the exercise meets safety standards.
He advised residents to remain calm, report any unusual environmental observations to the Ministry of Environment, and avoid panic.
Market leaders at Oja Oba, Awedele, Oja bisi, Mojere and Irona markets commended the government’s swift response but urged traders to support the effort by maintaining cleaner environment and desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
