The Ekiti State Government through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources will be holding the first environmental sanitation exercise in the new year on Saturday, the 28th of January, 2023.
Announcing the decision, through a press release issued and signed on Wednesday, the Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in Ekiti State, Mr. Tunde Balogun said, the January edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise to be held this Saturday will start by 7:00am and end by 10:00am in the morning.
According to Balogun, he added, that, “going by the press release from the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in Ekiti State, Mr. Babatunde Alokan; he enjoined all government workers to clean their environment and offices on Friday, 27th of January, 2023 before leaving for the weekend”.
The Permanent Secretary who used the opportunity to declare the theme for the month of January, 2023 sanitation exercise to be ‘CLEAN YOUR ENVIRONMENT FOR HEALTHY LIVING’ also charged the general public to clean their environment during the exercise.
He equally informed the people of Ekiti State that there will be restrictions on both human and vehicular movements during the exercise.
He also urged residents and shop owners to disillt drainages in front of their buildings and dump their refuse properly.
The Permanent Secretary thereafter admonished all traders in the various markets to use the opportunity to clean their shops and stalls and to also ensure that all wastes generated are properly disposed and not poured into the drainages. All markets stays closed until 10am.
According to him, the State and Local Governments Environmental Health Officers will be on ground to monitor and enforce the exercise especially around shops and market places.
The Permanent Secretary enjoins all Ekiti people to keep a clean environment keeping in mind the sensitivity of epidemics during this dry season.
