Ekiti Court Slams Man With Fine For Noise, Air Pollution

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has slammed a man with fine for violating the Ekiti State Environmental Health and Sanitation (re-enactment) Law No 21 of 2020 over rearing of pigs in a residential premises thereby causing noise and air pollution. He was also banned from rearing pigs in the area.

The Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court 6 which sat on Tuesday 10/01/23 and presided over by Magistrate Bunmi Bamidele in its ruling ordered one Mayowa Bankole living at Ogbon Omo Zone 2 Off Sije Road at the Omisanjana area of Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State for violating the Ekiti State Environmental Health and Sanitation (Re-enactment) law No 21 of 2020. 

During the hearing of the case at the Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court 6, the Ekiti State Government through the state counsels, Barristers Femi Onipede and Oluyemi Akintayo argued it’s case and proved it well against the said Mayowa Bankole by calling on two witnesses.

Interrogating the two witnesses, the Magistrate Court in its ruling was able to establish that the defendant truly allowed feaces, urine and noise from pig pen in his compound to escape to disturb his neighbors.        

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, in Ekiti State; Mr. Babatunde Alokan while reacting to the development assured the people of Ekiti State of the readiness of the Ekiti State Government not to relent in its effort at ensuring absolute compliance with the extant laws, rules and regulations of the Environmental Health and Sanitation in the State.

Alokan was however very optimistic that the court ruling would not only ensure sanity in the whole process, but would as well serve as deterrent to others, in keeping the State neat, clean and free from epidemic. 

Alokan in his submissions advised the public who had similar case in their domain not to hesitate in reporting such cases to the Ministry for necessary actions.
