Ekiti Transport Unions Pledge Seamless Logistics, Peaceful Conduct for Guber Poll

With the Ekiti State governorship election set for Saturday, key transport unions have committed to supporting a hitch-free transportation of election materials to the local government areas as well as the RAC centre across the State.
The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) gave the assurance on Wednesday during a media engagement held with professional Online Journalists in Ekiti State.
Representing RTEAN Chairman, Comrade Adeola Sunday popularly known as ‘Abokode’, the Union Secretary, Comrade Dare Bukola Ibitoye, said RTEAN is backing Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for a second term.
He cited the governor’s track record and his role in resolving disputes and building cooperation between transport unions and motorcycle operators across the state.
“Ekiti is stable today because there’s unity among transport stakeholders. That wasn’t the case in past years when conflicts were frequent,” Adeola noted.
On logistics, Adeola confirmed that all vehicles earmarked for election duty have been registered with INEC and the FRSC. “Deployment begins Thursday, ahead of Saturday’s vote. A total of 32 of RTEAN member vehicles will service the local government areas, with drivers assigned to the task will undergo mandatory training.
He cautioned that anyone planning to disrupt the poll would face consequences.
Addressing claims that opposition parties lacked buses to mobilize supporters, Adeola called the reports inaccurate.
He explained that most operators rely on daily earnings to meet financial obligations and will continue their regular business alongside election duties.
NURTW State Chairman, Chief Ambassador Joseph Falope echoed the commitment to peace.
He said union members will help move sensitive materials from the Central Bank of Nigeria to various polling centers. “Our focus is a credible and successful election,” Falope stated.
