Fire Guts Five Storey Building In Balogun Market In Lagos

Fire has in the early hours of Tuesday morning gutted a five storey building located at the Balogun Market in Lagos Island area of Lagos State destroying many properties worth millions of naira.

Treasure Newspaper investigations revealed that the cause of the inferno is still unknown as of the time of filing this report.

Investigations also revealed that no casualty is yet to identified or recorded from the scene. 

Treasure Newspaper further observed that those living around the five storey building are currently still panicking in the area as balls of fire billow and smokes has continue to engulf the skyline.

According to an eyewitness, the inferno started from 32 Balogun plaza at about 8am, where ladies shoes dealers are occupying.

Meanwhile, the State Emergency personnels, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Nigeria Police and a couple of other security agencies have arrived and cordoned off the area for effective rescue operation of the casualties from the scene of the fire incident.

Speaking further, the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, when contacted said the situation had been brought under control as at 10.30 am.

According to Adeseye, she said, ”The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Fire outbreak at the famous Balogun Market which involved the topmost floor of a five storey building.
