The Centre for Change led by its President, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, has condemned the alleged brutal attack and abduction of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Comrade Omoyele Sowore, in Ado-Ekiti, and demanded an immediate and thorough probe into the incident.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, and signed by its President, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, who is also President of Nigerians Unite Against Terror (NUAT), the group said Sowore was attacked at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti shortly after an interview at Midas FM 90.5.
Sowore, who is the AAC presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, had alleged that the incident occurred shortly after he concluded the radio interview in the Ekiti State capital.
The Centre for Change described the incident as a clear display of intolerance for dissenting voices by the establishment.
According to the group, the attack was not only targeted at an opposition candidate but also an assault on democratic freedoms, political participation and the fundamental rights of Nigerians.
The Centre expressed concern that such violence is occurring as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Nigeria must not descend into a political environment where cult groups, hired thugs and guns replace democratic engagement, the freedom of citizens to organise and political debate,” the statement said.
The group noted that Nigeria’s democracy was bought with blood and that citizens’ blood should not continue to be spilled to sustain it.
It demanded an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident, insisting that all those found culpable should be brought to justice.
