MTN Under Fire As Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti Condems Tariff Increase, Poor Service

The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, AFUNTADE 1, has condemned the recent 50% tariff increment by telecommunication service providers in the Country, stressing that it can only be justified by improved services.

The monarch expressed his disappointment with the poor services rendered by MTN to his community, Ilawe-Ekiti, despite personally signing two letters to the company to rectify the situation.

Oba Alabi, a former Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, questioned the justification for the tariff increase, given the subpar services provided by MTN.

He emphasized that no one would object to paying more for excellent services, but it would be extortionate to increase tariffs for poor services.

The Alawe appeals to MTN to improve its services in his domain and call on the National Communication Commission (NCC) to intervene in the poor services being rendered to Ilawe-Ekiti, the third most populous town in Ekiti State.

According to High Chief Ajibade Olubunmi, Media Adviser to the Alawe, Oba Alabi’s concerns are not limited to his community, as many other communities in Nigeria may be experiencing similar poor services from MTN.
