NBA Ado-Ekiti Branch Seeks AG’s Consent To Prosecute GBV Case Involving Lady

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ado-Ekiti Branch, has written to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ekiti State, Mr Dayo Apata SAN, seeking permission to prosecute a case of gender-based violence (GBV) involving a young lady who allegedly inflicted severe injuries on her boyfriend’s genital area.

In a letter signed by the Branch Chairman, Dr. Taiwo Omidoyin, the NBA Ado-Ekiti Branch condemned the rising cases of GBV in the state, particularly against men. 

The Association emphasized the need for due diligence in prosecuting such cases to serve as a deterrent to others and ensure a peaceful society.

In the letter, the NBA chairman referred to the incident involving a 20-year-old lady, Joy Ikoja, who allegedly tore the scrotal sac of her boyfriend, Ibrahim Usman, on April 12, 2025, in Ado-Ekiti. He described the act as “heinous,” “despicable,” and “unacceptable.”

While acknowledging that a charge has been filed against the defendant at the Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, the NBA believes that the act constitutes an attempt to murder, punishable with life imprisonment under Section 241 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. 

The Association respectfully requested the Attorney General’s office to take over the prosecution or grant them fiat to prosecute the defendant.

The NBA Ado-Ekiti Branch expressed confidence in the Ministry of Justice’s commitment to upholding justice and curbing criminality in the state. They congratulated the Attorney General on the successful hosting of the Ekiti State Administration of Criminal Justice Summit, 2025.

The Association urged the Attorney General’s office to take prompt action to ensure justice is served and the perpetrator is held accountable for her actions. This, they believe, would send a strong message that GBV will not be tolerated in Ekiti State.
