The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ado Ekiti Branch is seeking the support of the government and the general public towards the development of solar energy as an alternative to the power supply problems facing Ekiti State and Nigeria at large as it has expressed its readiness to generate 5000 megawatts.

The above message was dropped by Engineer Ademola Agoro while delivering a paper on the topic “Solar Energy Development Towards Energy Security In Nigeria Power Sector” during the public lecture organized by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ado Ekiti Branch led by its Chairman, Engineer Oluwasegun Aluko.

Delivering his paper on Wednesday during the public lecture held at the Ministry of Works and Transport hall in Ajilosun in Ado Ekiti, the guest lecturer, Engineer Ademola Agoro called on the government to join hands with tye Engineers in Ekiti State and the Country in general to permanently resolve the power supply problems been faced by the masses through the introduction of the solar energy as the best alternative.

The Guest Lecturer, Engineer Ademola Agoro delivering his lecture paper during the Public Lecture yesterday alheld at the Ministry of Works and Transport hall in Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti

Agoro in his words, noted that, “without electricity, there can be no industrialization. He appealed to the government on the need to enforce the use of good and quality solar power in the Country by ensuring incentives are given to professionals in the field of  Engineering to build more solar energy power for the people”.

Engineer Oluwasegun Aluko, the Chairman of the Nigerian Society Of Engineers, Ado Ekiti Branch giving his opening remarks at the public lecture yesterday

Speaking further, Agoro urged qualified and professional Engineers to go into more designs of solar energy power for it to be more acceptable in the Country.

While speaking to the media after the lecture, Engineer Ademola Agoro, who is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute Of Engineers and the Managing Director / CEO of Protogy Global Services Limited encouraged his professional colleagues to find a way to solve the power problem in Nigeria using renewable energy source because according to him, solar technology is now in abundance in the Country today.

He added that Engineers should let the world know, that with the proper usage of the solar technology, they can rewrite regulations and earn more support from the government thereby securing the Energy Sector through the adoption and use of the solar power technology.

He also used the opportunity to draw the attention of his colleagues on the need to let the government know that they need to be encouraged on the deployment of solar most especially for homes and offices.

“Emphasizing his stand, he said, if solar energy are deployed today in Nigeria, we have 43 millions homes in Nigeria today. If we are able to deploy 10 kilowatts of one solar system, into all those houses and we are able to deploy all that to only 500,000 homes, that will give us 5000 megawatts”.

“Nigeria is struggling today with about 4000 megawatts. So, there is a need to look at the solar technology so that Engineers can be able to solve some of these problems”.

He however decried the rate at which houses in the Country are wasting energy and paying for things they should not pay for. He advised Engineers to equally make use of the advantage of his lecture to reactivate their interest in the development of the solar energy in the Country.

Also, giving his opening remarks at the public lecture, the Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, in Ado Ekiti, Engineer Oluwasegun Aluko charged and challenged his colleagues to brace up and be committed to generating energy that is as twice or more of what the Nation generates currently at a much more reduced rate when compared with what the government is spending on generation, transmission and distribution.

Aluko expressed the readiness of his recently inaugurated NSE Executives to ensure there is improved energy supply particularly during the day to serve offices and industries as well as some other places with the help of the small scale industries in the State.

He listed some of the places to include Clinics, Health Centres, Public Schools and Market places. He urged the members of the public to end their dependance on generators and on what the government can do for them in respect to energy supply.

“The NSE in Ado Ekiti is already proposing and planning to do some models at their own costs. It may be in some of the local government headquarters in the State with two to three to start with”.
