No doubt, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, popularly known as MOB has erred over his recent statement appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to grant Diplomatic Shuttle to convicted Senator Ike Ekweremadu and wife, Beatrice who made attempt to harvest the internal organs of a poor Nigerian boy named David Nwamini Ukpo in far away United Kingdom.
Whilst the hue and cries over the arrest, prosecution and conviction of the Ekweremandu’s and their doctor collaborator persisted, it is on record that no Nigerian Senators like Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele has ever come out to openly speak in solidarity with the poor Nigerian boy, named David Nwamini Ukpo whose internal organs the already convicted Senator Ike Ekweremadu and wife wanted to harvest in the United Kingdom.
One is concerned by the recent statement made by the Senator representing the Ekiti Central Senatorial District of Ekiti State, in person of Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, where he appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to grant Senator Ike Ekweremadu and wife, Beatrice a “Diplomatic Shuttle” and ensure his release from the custody of the government of the United Kingdom back to Nigeria.
It is a wonder why Senator Opeyemi Bamidele of all people, whom many know and believed has a good track record of pitching his tent with the common people on the streets will suddenly turn around and want to take side with his rich Senator colleague against a poor Nigerian boy who was taking to the United Kingdom to rip off his internal organs.
Considering the progressive and people-centred principles associated with Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, his open appeal to President Bola Tinubu for Diplomatic Shuttle is a sad development, most especially now that it is coming from a very loving and generally acceptable Senator from Ekiti State. It is least expected from him to prefer to want to associate with an organ harvester like Senator Ike Ekweremadu at the expense of the poor Nigerian boy who has nobody to speak up for him.
It would be recalled that Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, at the Valedictory session of the ninth Senate, Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele urged the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deploy diplomatic shuttle to ensure the release of Senator Ike Ekweremadu in the United Kingdom.
According to media reports on the remarks by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele on ninth Senate during the valedictory session, he had said what happened to Senator Ekweremadu could happen to any parent, thereby calling on President Tinubu to deploy all the necessary diplomatic shuttle for the release of the former Deputy Senate President in United Kingdom (UK) prison.
”My heart goes to that gentle man distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu, what happened to him is something that could have happened to any parent”.
“It is our own call to President Bola Tinubu that the administration should resume all the necessary diplomatic shuttle to ensure that Senator Ike Ekweremadu is released.”
“It could be recalled that the former Deputy Senate President was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison for organ trafficking in May, 2023”, Bamidele ended his statement.
Notwithstanding the above, it is hoped that MOB has not lost his pro-people principles even as he is wished well in advance on his forthcoming birthday celebrations coming up in the month of July, 2023.
