We Have Spent Over N13bn On Enumerators’ Welfare – Ekiti NPC Chair, Deji Ajayi Reveals

The Honourable Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission in Ekiti State, Honourable Ayodeji Ajayi, had said the body has spent over N13bn on the welfare of Enumerators.

Hon. Ajayi stated this on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti, the State Capital, during a “Meeting with Media Executives and Stakeholders on the Postponement of the 2023 Population and Housing Census”.

He added that the Federal Government released ₦200 billion to the Commission in preparation of the 2023 Population and Housing Census before its postponement in May.

According to him, “We have spent over 130 billion naira on the welfare of our enumerators.

“I am sure that every accountability-conscious Nigerian is interested in how much funding has been released to the NPC for the exercise.

“I can confirm that 200 billion naira has been released so far. About 75% of the sum is for the purchase of technology and equipment such as PDAs and laptops.

“A substantial part of the remaining funds was deployed for the purchase of vehicles, training, construction or renovation of state offices, and provision of office equipment.”

Speaking on the new date of the exercise, he said the Commission will make sure they conduct the housing census as soon as possible and will inform the general public of the new date.

On his part, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela, urged the Commission to give more room for accreditation of the media so that every community and farmstead in the state would be covered during the exercise.

He also enjoined the body to regularly engage journalists in the state for adequate and efficient projection of its activities.
