Ogun Governor, Abiodun Grants Workers Weekly Day Off, ₦10,000 Transport Support

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has rolled out relief measures for public servants, including a weekly day off and a sum of ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance, to offset rising fuel costs and living expenses.
The three-month program, starting April 2026, targets workers hit hard by higher transport fares after recent fuel price increases.
The Head of Service of Ogun State, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya announced the decision, emphasizing that eligible staff will get one day off weekly, plus the allowance, to boost morale and productivity amid commuting woes.
Exemptions apply to essential roles like medical staff, judges, teachers, security personnel, accounting officers, and department heads, whose duties demand constant presence. These workers will also receive transport allowances. Accounting officers in ministries, departments, and agencies will schedule days off to avoid service disruptions.
Onasanya praised Abiodun’s timely move and called on staff to respond with greater dedication and efficiency. The initiative highlights the government’s focus on worker welfare during economic strain.
Abiodun Advances Infrastructure: Commissions Elega–Saje Road, Flags Off Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Upgrade:
In another development, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has commissioned the 5.5-km Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode-Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road, spanning Abeokuta North and South local government areas, and announced reconstruction of the long-abandoned Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road in Abeokuta.
Speaking at the event, Abiodun said the projects underscore his administration’s push for better roads to spur economic growth. The Ago-Odo–Lafenwa upgrade will improve connectivity and trade, including a new 1-km link road with a bridge to Lafenwa, as requested by locals and the Alake of Egbaland.
The fresh Elega–Saje route has already eased travel and nighttime business, with solar streetlights planned for added security and commerce. Abiodun noted 26 more roads are set for commissioning—one weekly in coming months—plus near-complete projects like Car Wash–Adatan.
On tourism, he highlighted the revamped Olumo Rock Centre, now generating ₦10 million weekly (up from ₦3 million yearly) via concession, drawing interest from Milan, Italy. He stressed that peace is key to progress.
The Works Commissioner, Engr. Ade Akinsanya said the road will drive local commerce, urging residents to protect it.
In his reaction remarks at the event, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, and other leaders has hailed Abiodun’s durable infrastructure drive for transforming lives and the economy.
