Olukoyede Urges NYSC Corps Members to Drive National Development, Reject Corruption

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, on Thursday, June 18, 2026, called on Nigerian youths to become active drivers of national development and shun corruption in all forms.

Addressing 2026 Batch B Stream I corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Okada, Edo State, Olukoyede described the moment as critical for young Nigerians to make decisive choices about the nation’s future. 

Speaking through Williams Oseghale, Head of Public Affairs, EFCC Benin Zonal Directorate, he challenged corps members to see themselves as a “new breed” ready to tackle national challenges. 

“A new breed youth should be angry with the failures of the past and develop strengths for successes. As new breed youth, decide to be a solution, rather than a problem, a builder not a breaker,” Oseghale said on behalf of the Chairman.

Olukoyede identified corruption as the major obstacle to Nigeria’s growth, calling it “a stain on our national image, a clog on the wheel of our development and a threat to our collective future.”

The EFCC’s message was delivered simultaneously across multiple NYSC camps nationwide. In Issele Ukwu, Delta State, SE Mohammed Aminu Chuwang urged corps members to avoid internet fraud and pursue honest, creative means of livelihood. 

In Lagos, Babatunde Suliaman of EFCC Lagos 2 encouraged corps members to become whistleblowers, using the Eagle Eye App to anonymously report corrupt practices in their places of primary assignment.

Similar calls went out in Port Harcourt, where SE Akpos Mezeh-Ekisowei warned against mortgaging the future through cybercrime, and in Enugu, where SE Paul Ikpor linked corruption to insecurity, unemployment, and inflation. 

The nationwide sensitization also covered NYSC camps in Kano, Ibadan, Maiduguri, Uyo, Ilorin, Abuja, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Makurdi, Ado-Ekiti, and Sokoto. 

The EFCC maintained that genuine alternatives to cybercrime exist and urged corps members to embrace innovation, enterprise, and patriotism.
