Speaking at the event held at Owo High School, Owo on June 13, 2024, Dr.Adenegan, an erudite scholar at the Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo and the Rector of Adeyemi College of Technology, lamented the state of the nation’s economy, attributing its woes to the actions of politicians.

He emphasized the need for a change in leadership and governance to revitalize the economy.

“How will one explain at a time we are celebrating 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, too many political office holders with significant and insignificant portfolios, receive huge pays and remunerations, even at the detriment of workers. Secretary to the PA of the PA to the Governor could have five or more buildings. Contractors who have assisted politically elected leaders are compensated with inflated projects that have low qualities and impacts.

Also, “Institutions Executives are made to parade Abuja almost on weekly basis for reasons that can be remotely solved and consequently affecting institutions finances. Corruption, money laundering and injustice are warmly romanced at high levels”, Adenegan lamented.

Despite the dire economic situation, Dr. Adenegan praised the efforts of Dr. Foluso Falaye, the sponsor of the FSMO, for his commitment to promoting education and academic excellence in Nigeria.

He encouraged others to emulate Dr. Falaye’s philanthropic spirit. “If others embezzling our monies will even in turn use the money in this regard and spend back in the society, citizens will not condemn their acts”, Adenegan revealed.

The FSMO award ceremony celebrated outstanding students in science and mathematics, with Oluwasegun Precious Olamide (AUD Grammar School Owo) emerging as winner receiving the cash prize of N150,000 while Adebisi Busayo (Owo High School Owo) and Salaja Honour (At. John/Mary Unity Owo) emerging as the second-place and third-place winner, receiving a cash prize of N120,000 and N100,000 each with medals and trophies.
