Second Term Will Bring Greater Benefits to Osun, Says Senator Oyewumi at NUJ Guest Platform

Senator Akogun Lere Oyewumi, Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council, has assured residents of Osun State that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second term will deliver greater dividends of democracy, noting that the administration’s first term has laid a solid foundation for accelerated development.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Guest Platform held at the NUJ Press Centre, Osogbo, Oyewumi was received by the council’s Chairman, Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin, and other union members.

Oyewumi said Osun has been ranked the best-performing state in healthcare delivery in the South-West for two consecutive years, a feat that attracted $500,000 in rewards each year. 

He added that every local government area in the state has benefitted from the government’s road construction and rehabilitation programme.

On infrastructure, he cited the Oke Fia Flyover in Osogbo as a landmark project, noting that its design was inspired by a modern curved flyover Governor Adeleke saw in Atlanta, United States.

The senator condemned what he described as politically motivated attacks on Accord Party members in the state. He said despite the recent visit of the Inspector-General of Police to Osun, a party supporter was allegedly killed on Sunday for wearing an Accord Party T-shirt and cap.

He expressed confidence, however, that such intimidation would not deter residents from exercising their democratic rights, stressing that voters would judge the Adeleke administration by its performance.

Addressing unemployment and workers’ welfare, Oyewumi explained that the Adeleke administration inherited significant financial liabilities, including unpaid salary arrears and pensions. 

He said the government has continued to clear the debts while ensuring regular payment of salaries despite the state’s low federal allocation.

He assured that a second term would enable the administration to settle all outstanding obligations, opening up opportunities for job creation and economic growth.

Oyewumi added that Governor Adeleke prioritizes competence in governance, with professionals deliberately appointed to key positions to drive effective service delivery and policy implementation.

During the interactive session, NUJ Chairman, Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin raised concerns about the dilapidated state of Olupona Community High School. In response, Oyewumi pledged that the school would be rehabilitated before the end of December 2026.

The senator recalled the destruction of Adeleke’s campaign billboards by political opponents during the last electioneering period, describing the attacks as counterproductive moves that ultimately boosted the governor’s popularity and public support.

Oyewumi concluded by expressing confidence that a second term for Governor Adeleke would consolidate current achievements and deliver improved infrastructure, enhanced healthcare, expanded employment, and better welfare for Osun residents.
