The National Women Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has condemned the alleged sexual harassment of a female member by the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina.

In a statement signed by Comrade Ijeoma Basil Kalu, the National Women Coordinator, the committee expresses dismay and dissatisfaction over the lingering issue, despite the victim’s rejection of the Vice-Chancellor’s advances.

The committee demands the immediate suspension of Prof. Fasina to allow for a free and fair investigation, as well as the re-composition of the Council Committee investigating the matter. They also called for the reversal of the suspension of the branch chairperson and Secretary, who were acting in line with their duties.

Furthermore, the committee demands the safety and security of their members, who are victims of sexual harassment and intimidation in the workplace. They also called for the speedy determination of the matter in a non-prejudiced manner by the Governing Council of the University.
