Online Media Executives From South West States Applauds EU, IPC

.. . As IPC Tasks Online Publishers On More Robust Reportage Of Electoral Issues.

The Online Media Executives from  across five of the Southwest States of Osun, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun and Ekiti have applauded the European Union, EU, and the International Press Centre, IPC, for organizing a one day interface and engagement to broaden the knowledge and scope of the participants, also tasking online publishers on more robust reportage of electoral issues.

Giving his opening remarks and welcoming the participants drawn from five Southwest States of Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo and Ekiti; the Executive Director of the International Press Centre, Mr Lanre Arogundade enjoined the beneficiaries of the Ibadan workshop held at the Kakanfo Inn located at Joyce ‘B road to ensure the knowledge acquired are put into proper use in the reports published by the various mediums represented at the workshop / training. 

He also used the opportunity to call on all the previous beneficiaries of the European Union and the International Press Centre workshops to implement the knowledge imparted on them and the ideas gained in the previous workshops and trainings, put together by the sponsors in the past, by writing reports to amplify them. 

Mr Arogundade listed the areas of focus for the one day Media Executives engagement and interface with Online and Print to include the need to improve professionalism; increase awareness in the use of the Freedom of Information bill; strengthening the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria, BON; combating mis / dis information in the media; educating and encouraging members of the public to participate in voters registration as well as ensuring the increase in participation of women in politics as 2027 draws nearer.

He also emphasised on the need for journalists to get more acquinted with fact checking, regular writing of editorials and the essence of embracing creativity to enhance productivity on the job. 

Speaking at the one day training and workshop, the Chairman of the Southwest Guild Of Online Publishers, SWEGOP, Mr Bisi Oladele; expressed the readiness of the body to partner with the International Press Centre, IPC, by ensuring Online Publishers, most especially upcoming ones are well trained and tutored to be self sufficient on the job. 

Oladele also assured the International Press Centre and its international sponsors of its readiness to align itself with its component 4 objectives which focuses on both Online and Print, with the exception of broadcast media which is now in the purview of CEMESO.

In his own remarks, the Publisher of Sunshine Truth who also doubled as the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Ondo State, Prince Leke Adegbite, hailed the European Union and the International Press Centre for their previous efforts at making sure professionalism and sound ethical standard are entrenched in the journalism profession by its practitioners. 

The Publisher of Parrot Xtra Magazine and PMParrot, Mr Olayinka Agboola used the opportunity to appeal to both the European Union and the International Press Centre to continue to organize similar trainings and workshops to upgrade the ability and quality of journalists across the Country. 

Publishers of Online Media present at the workshop includes Coven News, Treasure Newspaper, Insight Links News, City Mirror, Salient Times, Arise News Daily, The Tabloid News and Oyo Insight.
