First Substantive AFUED VC Resumes

… Meets Staff, Raises Hope

The first Substantive Vice Chancellor of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola has resumed duty at the University on Thursday, as he met with the staff, raising their hopes. 

Presenting the new Vice Chancellor, Professor Popoola to the staff of the Institution; the Pro-Chancellor and the  Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Honourable Ganiat Yusuf Adeola urged them to embrace and cooperate with the new Vice Chancellor to succeed in his task to bring about development and change in the Institution and achieve excellence.  

Honourable Adeola Yusuf confirmed at the first meeting of the Vice Chancellor with the University’s staff that the process that gave birth to Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola’s appointment as the first substantive Vice Chancellor of the Institution was transparent, open and fair. 

She also enjoined all the Unions to closely work with the new Vice Chancellor to further raise the standard of the Institution in the Country and globally. 

She added that, for many years, the Institution was not sure what was ahead but that today, the unsure has now become sure.

She hailed the commitment and resilient of the stakeholders who never looked back until the University status was achieved.

Addressing the staff of the University, the first Substantive Vice Chancellor, Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola  acknowledged the contributions of every stakeholders who ensured the upgrade of the Institution from a College to a University. 

While appreciating people who made his appointment possible, Professor Popoola specially thanked the University’s Governing Council members  and the Alumni Association for ensuring that the selection process for his appointment as the substantive Vice Chancellor was very fair, credible and transparent. 

He described the development as a demonstration of integrity and courage  on their part, most especially for not succumbed to pressure but remained guided by the principles of justice and fairness throughout the various stages of his selection.

He promised to lay a solid foundation of sustainable administrative and academic procedures in line with national and global best practices in the University governance. 

He also expressed the readiness to establish the culture and tradition and the procedures for running an efficient University system. 

Highlighting his key plans for the University’s growth, development and progress; he revealed that in the coming weeks, he will make public his comprehensive plans for structural reforms, and kick start the process of changing the orientation, attitude and the structures on campus.

Some of the major plans he reeled out includes Curriculum Innovation which will help add and expand teachers curriculum to include new courses, market new degree programmes, such that when students leaves the University, they will be on hot demand when they get to the labour market. 

Others include establishing a culture of research and innovation in teacher education, staff development and capacity building, welfare of staff and students, ensuring the quality and integrity built by stakeholders are sustained and improved upon in the affairs of the University. 

He also assured that his administration will not jettison the support he has enjoyed from the Alumni Association and the host community.

He also used the opportunity to assure the leaders of the Union that he will ensure prompt payment of staff salaries and allowances, and that, the administration under his watch will clear all outstanding financial indebtedness inherited as well as backlog of promotion cases within the shortest possible time, with urgency, fairness and transparency. 

He added that his structural reforms will affect staff and academic programmes development, with a view to expand, attract and market the University to the world further. “We will also renew some of our infrastructures to have the right learning and teaching environment that is very conducive for all”, he submitted.
