From time to time, we are determined to always speak the truth, nothing but the truth.

Ekiti people for long have been suffering in silence because of the selfish and greedy dispositions of its leaders. Most especially, since the beginning of political dispensation in the State.

We won’t mention the year. We believe, all of us should know the year that the political dispensation in Ekiti State started if truly we have been following  historical events in the State and how things have been going.

Only God knows when the State will be free, we mean completely free from the entanglements of those who have held unto its neck and jugular, preventing the State from breathing well.

Only God knows when God Himself will show up to deliver and rescue his people, the people of Ekiti State from the enslavement of those who are arrogating leadership of the State to themselves in the State. 

From the beginning of the political dispensation in Ekiti State, those calling themselves leaders have only been show concern about themselves, their families, friends and associates with what accrues to them from the resources of the State. From all indications, none of the self styled leaders is truly bothered about the plight of the people. 

These people don’t really love the Ekiti people. They only love themselves, their immediate families, their friends and associates. Besides the above, their desire is to continue to subject the suffering masses to poverty and low level life, whereas they live in affluence and massive wealth which they ought to equitably share with the people, rather, they merely vow and promise to defend and protect.

Before the present administration in Ekiti State, the State has produced greedy politicians and leaders who projected themselves as saviours. 

During their time, they focused more on what they could get for themselves and used the opportunity of the time to corner the common wealth and resources of the people to enrich themselves, their families, friends and associates.

Despite all that they fraudulently acquired, they are still not satisfied. They have formed themselves into a gang to continue to feast on the common wealth and general resources of the people.

These people don’t care about the common people on the street. They are more concerned about how to share the wealth and resources of the State and only throw crumbs to the market women, the youths, the civil servants, transport workers and even the academic community who are supposed to be the agents of change but only compromised and allowed themselves to become tools in the hands of politicians in government.

It becomes more worrisome to see how the government of Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who was seen as home based  politician and who many described as an “home grown politician” when he was contesting in 2022 to be seen now as a different person, whose activities as Governor has pushed more Ekiti people to become frustrated. 

Today, that narrative of Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji as an “home grown politician” has become so battered and even more worse considering the manner the Ikogosi-Ekiti man handled the State Affairs.

Many are complaining bitterly that since Oyebanji assumed office as Governor in 2022, indications are that he has so much mismanaged the State resources that Ekiti State under him has been witnessing under development.

People are describing Oyebanji’s plowing of the State resources as unprecedented.

Many are now seeing his decision to run for a second term of another four years in office, which himself and his partners in government are calling continuity, which recently snowballed into their so called “ENDORSEMENTS”.

The so called “ENDORSEMENTS” they came up with, was laced with lots of coercion and inducement. Not that, it was the people that birthed it. It was a political “ENDORSEMENT”. Not from the suffering masses. 

In essence, it was a State Sponsored Endorsement and, not that of the people.

Today, we have looked everywhere for all those who claimed they endorsed Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji but can’t find them.

Those who participated in the Endorsement Rally have collected their own share of the “State Cake” as fondly called and disappeared into thin air without showing readiness to remain with Oyebanji to realise his goal.

Union leaders in Ekiti State who are supposed to be the mouth piece of the suffering masses are not left out in the  collection of their own share of the “State Cake” and they have all kept quiet.

Undoubtedly since hullabaloo began on the issue of bad access roads into Ekiti State on the social media, the members of the Transport Union have chosen to keep quiet.

Be it, the NLC, TUC, NUT, NULGE, NMA and others, they have kept quiet and don’t see any reason why they should join their voices to the issue of bad roads confronting the State. To the union members, they are very okay, as long they are collecting their unmerited allowances and other emoluments from the “State Cake”. 

To the Ekiti current Labour leaders, they have no business with the current state of roads in the State, whether Federal or State. We see them pretending as if, both the internal and access roads in Ekiti State are in good condition. 

They want to continue to pretend that they are not aware that the Ekiti State Airport for sometimes now has been under lock and key.

They want to continue to pretend as if all the humongous allocations coming into Ekiti State since 2022 are not commensurate with the projects on ground in the State. 

They want to continue to pretend as if they are not aware that the resources of the State are being mismanaged and looking the other way as the masses are suffering.

They want to continue to pretend as if they are not aware that heavy taxes are being imposed on the ordinary citizens on the street by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

They want to continue to pretend as if they don’t know that some of the policies of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji are not meant to subject the suffering masses of the State to high level of poverty.  

Be that as it may, the Ekiti public at this time need to be conscious of the kind of narratives been put forward by the State principal officers, through the media as we are getting closer to another election season to elect a new leader for the State in 2026.

Narratives that tend to promote unfriendly policies of government and subvert justice and equity in the Ekiti polity needs to be regularly censored by the electorates at the party level.
