The management of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, JABU, Ikeji-Arakeji, has concluded plans to launch inter-city electric buses to Akure, Ikeji-Arakeji and other neighbouring towns, as part of measures to significantly enhance its transportation system within and outside the campus.
Disclosing this, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Olasebikan Alade Fakolujo, explained that the current transportation system is supported by private operators of small white buses and about five cabs operating within the campus, in addition to city transport operators.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the Alumni Association is set to complement the existing system with the introduction of Electric Vehicles.
Professor Olasebikan noted that the major challenge delaying the deployment of the electric buses is the provision of a charging station, adding that once the charging infrastructure is sorted out, the Electric Vehicle’s operation will commence and in no distant time, the transportation system within the campus will be enhanced,” he said, noting that the plan also covers inter-campus movement.
He added that the initiative will be extended to staff for inter-city transportation, with routes covering Akure, Ikeji-Arakeji, Owena, Igbaraoke and other neighbouring towns.
He assured that as soon as the charging station is ready, the project will take off.

Also, speaking on Artificial Intelligence, Professor Olasebikan stressed the need for its responsible use, warning that AI could become disastrous if not properly channeled.
He noted that while AI has both good and bad sides, its impact depends largely on the integrity and character of the user.
“AI will not do the thinking for you. AI can only amplify your thoughts and try to replicate them for application in many ways. That is the usefulness of AI,” the Vice Chancellor said.
He added that like any computer software or application, AI must be properly applied to avoid misuse.
