Kemta DPO Visits FMC Abeokuta, Pledges Enhanced Patrols, Rapid Response

The Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Abeokuta has strengthened its security partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, Kemta Division, with a renewed commitment to the safety of lives and property within the hospital community.

The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Divisional Police Officer, Kemta Division, CSP Quadril R.O., and his management team to the Medical Director of the Centre.

CSP Quadril, who was accompanied by ASP Balogun Latifat, ASP Abdullahi Oyetunji, ASP Olopade, ASP Christopher and other officers, said the visit was aimed at deepening operational synergy between the Police and the hospital to ensure a safer environment for patients, staff and visitors.

He described both institutions as partners in progress, stressing that effective collaboration is critical to safeguarding lives and supporting quality healthcare delivery.

In her response, the Medical Director of FMC Abeokuta, Dr. Titilola Sarah Ibiyemi, thanked the police delegation for the visit, saying she holds the Nigeria Police Force in high esteem and has always enjoyed a cordial and professional relationship with its officers despite prevailing negative perceptions about the Force.

Dr. Ibiyemi noted that while the Centre has enjoyed strong support from the Kemta Division in securing the facility, there has been a recent surge in cases of theft and vandalism, and appealed for more robust security coverage.

Corroborating her, the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Olusola Adebisi, described the security breaches as worrisome. He cited the recent vandalisation of an air-conditioning unit close to the hospital’s police post as an indication of the daring nature of the criminals, and called for improved surveillance and arrest of perpetrators.

The Director of Administration, Mr. E. K. Apanisile, on his part, requested increased police patrols around the hospital premises, especially at night. He also sought stronger police intervention to curb the rising cases of assault on health workers by patients and their relatives, which he said threatens staff safety and morale.

Responding, CSP Quadril assured the hospital management of the Division’s readiness to respond promptly to distress calls and to scale up security around the facility. 

He pledged improved patrols, intelligence sharing and rapid response mechanisms, adding that the Police will continue to work closely with FMC Abeokuta to keep the hospital safe for patients, families, health professionals and other staff.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions to creating a secure environment that supports efficient healthcare service delivery.
