Crime Management Students Storm Ogun Police Headquarters for Practical Policing Experience

ABEOKUTA — No fewer than 150 students of the National Association of Crime Management Students, NACRIMS, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro Chapter, have stormed the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran,  Abeokuta on Monday for practical policing experience.

The educational visit was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.

According to the statement, the excursion was hosted under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, and in line with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which emphasizes community partnership, youth engagement and non-kinetic approaches to crime prevention.

The students, who were accompanied by lecturers and supervisors from the Department of Crime Management, were taken through the organizational structure of the Nigeria Police Force, its operational strategies, community policing philosophy and intelligence-led crime prevention initiatives.

Welcoming the delegation, the State Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, sensitized the students to the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, violent extremism and other emerging social vices.

He described POCACOV as the flagship non-kinetic initiative of the Force and charged the students to uphold integrity, discipline and civic responsibility, while serving as peace ambassadors in their campuses and communities.

The students thereafter took a collective pledge to reject cultism, substance abuse and criminality and to embrace academic excellence and positive values.

Also speaking, the Command’s Legal Officer, ASP Saheed Abdulganiyu, lectured the students on police investigative procedures and the legal framework for criminal justice administration in Nigeria.

He explained complaint handling, professional investigation, constitutional safeguards during arrest, evidence preservation, respect for suspects’ rights and prosecution of cases before courts of competent jurisdiction.

Representatives of the Commissioner of Police reaffirmed CP Ojajuni’s commitment to sustained partnership with academic institutions as a vital tool for preventive policing and public trust-building, in line with the IGP’s strategic agenda.

In their goodwill messages, the Head of Department, Crime Management, Mrs. Adeoye K.T., and the President of NACRIMS, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro Chapter, Comrade Makinde Ridwan Ayomide, thanked the IGP and the Ogun State Command for the warm reception and rich learning experience.

They noted that the visit provided practical exposure that broadened their understanding of modern policing and crime management.

The Command reiterated its commitment to implementing the IGP’s policing agenda through continuous community engagement, youth-focused programmes and proactive crime prevention to enhance safety and security in Ogun State.
