Ogun Police Rescue Kidnapped Truck Driver, Kill Two Suspects, Recover AK-47s, N2m Cash

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have rescued a kidnapped truck driver and killed two suspected kidnappers during a tactical operation along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, on August 30, 2026.

The operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of live ammunition, two mobile phones, and N2 million cash suspected to be proceeds of crime.

According to the Command, the victim, a professional truck driver, was abducted on August 25, 2026, at about 11:10 p.m. in the Ajibawo area of Ibese. Upon receiving the report, the Anti-Kidnapping squad launched an intelligence-driven operation to track the gang and secure the victim’s release.

Acting on actionable intelligence, operatives stormed the kidnappers’ hideout on the Papalanto–Ilaro axis. During the ensuing gun battle, two suspects were neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries.

The victim was rescued unhurt.

The bodies of the neutralised suspects have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy, while a manhunt has been launched for the fleeing members of the gang.

Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, said the success demonstrates the Command’s resolve to make Ogun State uninhabitable for kidnappers and violent criminals.

He assured residents that the Command will sustain intelligence-led policing and tactical operations, and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, especially those seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.
