Ado-Ekiti — Yoruba self-determination advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has inaugurated his community security initiative, the Iru Ekun Security Network, in Ekiti State.

Igboho was received on Thursday at the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, where he formally inaugurated the Ekiti State Chapter of the network headed by Commander Ifatosin Ilori.

He said the initiative, which he claimed has grown to over 120,000 members, was established to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies in tackling banditry, kidnapping and other security threats in the Southwest.

According to him, the group will work alongside the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies in Ekiti State. He also claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu granted him the authority to return to Nigeria and commence the security initiative.

He said his visit to the Ewi’s palace was to appreciate the traditional institution and strengthen cooperation with traditional rulers.

Addressing journalists after the visit, Igboho said: “The police are trying their best. I just want to support them to make peace reign in all our land in the Southwest.”

He urged members of the network to remain focused on security duties, avoid interfering in domestic disputes, respect traditional rulers, and undergo training to improve effectiveness.

In his response, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti commended the initiative, stating that the traditional institution supports genuine efforts to promote peace, adding that development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity.
