ABUJA – Justice C.N. Nwabulu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has convicted and sentenced a fake spiritualist, Solomon Odigie Moses, to one year imprisonment for fraud and sextortion.

Moses was sentenced on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of cheating and impersonation preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The convict, who operated under the alias “Dr Solomon”, was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, for defrauding an Indian lady, Sharon Kaur, of the sum of $1,100 under the guise of offering spiritual healing and prayers.

The EFCC told the court that Moses operated a fictitious TikTok account where he posed as a spiritual leader. He lured the victim who was seeking spiritual assistance and collected $1,100 from her through his Zelle payment platform, which was later converted and paid into his local bank account.

Investigations further revealed that the convict deceived the victim into taking a naked spiritual bath, which he secretly recorded live without her consent. He subsequently used the nude video to blackmail her, threatening to make it public unless she paid him.

The victim was forced to pay the $1,100 to stop him from releasing her nudity.

The charge against him read: “That you Solomon Odigie Moses (A.K.A DR SOLOMON) sometimes in 2026 in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did fraudulently impersonate a spiritual leader named Dr. Solomon on a fictitious Tiktok account and obtained the sum of $1100 (One Thousand One Hundred Dollars) from an Indian lady by name Sharon Kaur, for the purpose of spiritual prayer and assistance, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code Act (Abuja) LFN, 1990 and punishable under Section 322 of the same Act.”

Following his guilty plea, prosecution counsel, Maryam Hayatudeen, urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

In his judgment, Justice Nwabulu convicted and sentenced Moses to one year imprisonment with an option of fine of N300,000.

The judge also ordered that the $1,100 recovered as proceeds of crime be returned to the victim through the EFCC.

The conviction was contained in a statement signed by the Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, on September 10, 2026.
