Emure Ekiti Based Community Thug Beats Up Nurse, Breaks Neck, Wounds Other Staffs 

… As Victims, Nurses and Midwives Association Seeks For Justice, Arrest Of Perpetrator

An Emure Ekiti based Community thug, Gbenga popularly known as Seriki has been reported beating up a Nurse by the name Mrs. Comfort Olaogbesibikan working at the Emure Ekiti General Hospital thereby resulting in the breaking of her neck and wounded some other medical staffs just as the victims as well as the Nurses and Midwives Association in Ekiti State has called for justice and demanded that the perpetrator should be immediately arrested and prosecuted appropriately. 

Reports which reached the Treasure Newspaper in Ado Ekiti on Friday revealed that the suspects also inflicted injuries on other staff of the hospital including the security man on guard.

Narrating her ordeal, the nurse told Treasure Newspaper that Seriki rushed his five day old baby to the clinic for treatment after the baby was said to have developed complications.

She noted that the baby was brought in dead (BID) and immediately the father was notified, he pounced on her heavily leading to the fatal neck injury.

As if that was not enough, the suspect was said to have recruited four of his gangs who joined him to unleash terror on other staff of the hospital.

The situation paralyzed activities in the hospital and as at the time of this report, the hospital has not been opened for operations due to fear of further attack from the suspects who is a known notorious criminal in the area.

Treasure Newspaper also gathered that a delegation from the Hospital Management Board had visited the hospital for further inquiries into the matter.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ekiti State, has described the incident as barbaric calling on the Ekiti State Police Command to fish out the suspect for prosecution.

The reaction of the Association is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, Comrade Kunle Oni, Secretary, Comrade Olabisi Ayenioye and the PRO, Comrade Olaoluwa Odunayo.

According to the statement, it will be a great injustice to the injured nurse and the health community if the suspect is allowed to go unpunished adding that such development will encourage further attack on health officials.

They noted that the injured nurse who is battling for her life had undergone several tests and X-trays as a result of the injury sustained from the brutal attack.
