Police Authorities Intervene In Shooting Allegations, Sets To Resolve Conflict With Anambra Football Academy

The authorities of the Anambra State Police Command are set to intervene by investigating the conflict between its Command’s Operatives and an Ex-Falcon Owner of a Football Academy based in the State.

The Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement signed expressed the readiness of the Command to wade in, to resolve the issues amicably among the parties.

Narrating the situation, Ikenga explained how the Police intercepted a protest in the form of some publications by an ex-Falcon footballer on the alleged arrest and human rights violations by some operatives of the State Police Command, which is presently being investigated with a view to resolving the conflicts.

Ikenga in his statement, equally explained how the Anambra State Police Command has been very concerned about the incident especially as it concerns human rights violations as alleged, which prompted the ex-international player and members of her team to get the facts straight.

The Anambra Police however note, that the importance of intervening for the victims will help in resolving the issues that happened some months ago, with assurances from the Police to look into the unprofessional conduct of its officer(s) as complained by the Ex-Falcon footballer

The Anambra Police Command used the opportunity to sue for calm as all those concerned under the leadership of CP Nnaghe Obono Itam promised to remain committed and accountable in strengthening the relationship with the members of the Public, most especially Ndi Anambra.

In another development, the Anambra Police Command has called for calm in the State, assuring the members of the public that a case of shooting which occurred in Nnewi has been put under control.

According to the press release made public by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the Command is aware of the shooting incident which took place at Izuchukwu junction, Nnobi / Nnewi road by 7 pm on Wednesday, 20th of November, 2024, where Security Operatives mistook the Police Operatives as unfriendly officers and opened fire at them.

Ikenga explained that the attack on the operatives was not from non state actors or any attempt to disrupt the burial of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

Preliminary information shows that security operatives on investigation trailed a suspect to a security checkpoint before the gun duel ensued.

Unfortunately, bullets hit the fuel tank of the Toyota Venza Sedan carrying the men, and it was razed down. Two innocent passers-by were injured and taken to hospital. The Command sues for calm to allow for investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, Joint Security Forces have been deployed to ensure Nnewi is calm throughout the burial ceremonies of the late Senator.
