Report Police Misconducts To Superiors, IGP Tell Nigerians

Nigerians have been told by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun to henceforth report any misconduct of Police Officers across the Country to their seniors and superiors.

The IGP, Mr Kayode Egbetokun gave the public notification through the office of the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, by  ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi through the public notice issued and circulated across States and media houses in the Country. 

According to the IGP Kayode Egbetokun, he said, “the persistent unprofessional conduct of Police officers undermining the standards and reputation of the Nigeria Police Force are being repeatedly warned, with appropriate and necessary disciplinary actions to be taken against those who have been exposed.

He went on to describe as alarming the fraudulent use of the name and office of the Inspector-General of Police to perpetrate illegal acts, pointing out that the intention behind the latest approach in the Country is to intimidate victims into believing that the IGP is aware, thereby legalizing their illegal activities and scaring victims away from reporting such incidencies to higher authorities. 

We urge members of the public to report any misconduct by Police Officers to their superiors, the Heads of the Complaint Response Units (CRU) in their states or the Commissioner of Police in the state. Contact information for the CRU in all states has been published previously.

Members of the public are therefore advised to exercise caution when approached by officers or individuals claiming connections with the IGP or any senior officer for the purpose of influence or favour.
