Ekiti City Boy Movement Dismisses Allegation Linking Members to Cybercrime

The Ekiti State Chapter of the City Boy Movement has rejected a viral social media post alleging that 89% of its members in the state are involved in cybercrime.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Communications, Alofe Ayodele Moses, the movement described the claim as baseless, irresponsible and a deliberate attempt to smear the good image of thousands of its members.

The group stated that while freedom of expression is guaranteed, it is unacceptable to label politically active young people as criminals without any evidence.

“The City Boy Movement in Ekiti State is a structured, purposeful and progressive organisation comprising young professionals, tech innovators, civil and public servants, artisans, students and grassroots organisers who are engaged in legitimate businesses and community development,” the statement read.

The movement noted that it recently unveiled a strategic framework to strengthen its grassroots structure and deepen political engagement ahead of the forthcoming elections, focusing on strategic communication, voter mobilisation and coordinated action.

It added that attempts to criminalise youth participation in politics do a disservice to hardworking young people in Ekiti who are striving to build productive lives.

The group urged social media commentators to be responsible in their public utterances and to focus on issues that promote the development of Ekiti State.

It reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots mobilisation, civic participation and supporting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
