Ekiti NUJ to Clamp Down on Quacks Tuesday, Gets Police, NSCDC, FRSC Backing

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, will on Tuesday commence enforcement against individuals impersonating journalists in the state.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, and the Secretary, Comrade O’Seun Ogunsakin.

According to the statement, the enforcement will be carried out by the Anti-Quackery Committee led by Comrade Abiodun Olofe, in collaboration with operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The union said the exercise is aimed at sanitising the profession, ensuring public safety and protecting citizens from the dangers posed by quacks parading themselves as journalists.

It added that during the patrol, the committee will verify NUJ identity cards and press stickers on vehicles belonging to persons claiming to be media practitioners.

The council advised all practising journalists in the state to always have their valid NUJ identity cards on them to avoid embarrassment during the operation.

The union reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professionalism and ethical standards, stressing that it would not condone any act capable of bringing the profession into disrepute.
