Ekiti NUT Elects Egbeyemi Adedeji As New Chairman

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in Ekiti State has elected Comrade Egbeyemi Adedeji as its new Chairman.

Egbeyemi was elected on Tuesday as the new NUT Chairman in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital at the 7th Quadrennial State Wing Delegates Conference held at their State Secretariat.

According to the results of the election announced at the end of the Delegates Conference, Egbeyemi Adedeji emerged as the new State Chairman with 115 votes, alongside other key officials, including, Deputy Chairman, Oyerola Raphael with 115 votes.

The 1st Vice Chairman, Taiwo Bobote scored 115 votes; the 2nd Vice Chairman, Bolaji Rose polled 114 votes; the 3rd Vice Chairman, Ayeni Oluwole scored 116 votes; and the 4th Vice Chairman, Toyinlaye Oyeyemi got 112 votes. 

Other Key Officials are the State Treasurer, Dada Clement Ojo; Publicity Secretary, Adeola Joseph Abiodun won with 109 votes; the Social Secretary, Onile Florence Olubunmi had 110 votes and the National Representative, Oguntuase Busuyi Samuel had 109 votes.

In an interview with the new Chairman, Comrade Egbeyemi Adedeji outlined some of his vision to include uniting the NUT members and prioritizing the teachers’ welfare. 

He pledged his readiness to embrace other co-contestants by embracing everybody. He described the NUT as one with a promise to bring everyone together.

He expressed confidence in the state government’s willingness to fulfill promises made to teachers. 

In the same vein, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in Ekiti State, Professor Femi Akinwumi, commended the election process, “describing it as the most free, fair and without bitterness in the history of holding the NUT elections in the State”. 

He thanked the government for providing a conducive environment for the election and praised the media for their contribution to its success.
