Ekiti Records Partial Compliance On Sanitation Day ……… Just As Market Women, Transporters, Road Users, Commuters Refuse To Comply With Government Order

The Sanitation Exercise for the month of November, 2022 has recorded a partial compliance on the part of the general public and the people of Ekiti State.

Treasure Newspaper observed during the monitoring of the November edition of the Monthly Sanitation Exercise that places such as Ajilosun area of Ado Ekiti, Federal Polytechnic road, Ilawe road, Basiri road, Oja Bisi, Bank road, Ejigbo and GRA areas of the State Capital recorded a very high compliance with the Monthly Sanitation Exercise order of the Ekiti State Government.

Treasure Newspaper also observed that places like Okeyinmi market, Okesa market, motor parks at Alade filling station and Oja Oba area of the State Capital were seen doing normal businesses and were unconcerned about the November edition of the monthly sanitation exercise. 

Speaking with our reporter, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Babatunde Alokan said, “today sanitation exercise has been successful to a reasonable extent. If I am to judge the percentage performance or compliance, it should be about 70%”.

“He promised that his Ministry was going to ensure proper sensitisation and awareness for the people on the need for them to make their environment very clean and friendly”.

He also used the opportunity to express his satisfaction to his colleagues, the two other Permanent Secretaries who joined him to monitor the November Sanitation Exercise.

Also, others, who joined him were equally appreciated such as the General Manager, Waste and the Director of Environmental Sanitation, who were all in the convoy of the team that monitored the Monthly Sanitation Exercise on behalf of Mr. Governor and that of the Head of Service to move round the town.

While addressing the market women at Okeyinmi, Mr. Babatunde Alokan appealed to them to ensure they comply with the subsequent Monthly Sanitation Exercise by making sure their environments are well clean.

Continuing, he assured the public of the readiness of his Ministry to continue to ensure drainages are cleaned up so as to avoid unnecessary epidemic in the State.

Also, on the motor parks that opened for businesses during the November edition of the monthly sanitation exercise, Mr. Alokan said, “since governance is about people, enforcement will have to be gradual and that, by Monday or Tuesday, the Ministry of Environment will be summoning meetings with the Association’s of the motor parks to come to our office to sensitized them up and let them know that contraveny the order on environmental sanation of the State will be very curious”.

He however assured the people of the State that, by next month, there will be a lot of improvement on the sanitation exercise in the State.

While sensitizing the market women, the General manager, Waste Management Authority, Mr Ayoola Osalusi appealed to traders to stop indiscriminate waste disposal but make use of government refuse vans to make their environment tidy.

In the same vein, the Director, Environmental Health and Sanitation, Mr Tunde Balogun advised the market women to stop displaying their goods by the road side owing to its health hazards.

He therefore announced that twenty (20) people were arrested and made to face legal action while their goods were also seized.
