The Justice Development and Peace lnitiative, JDPI, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council and the Ekiti Council Of Elders have called on Governor Biodun Oyebanji to focus the attention of his administration on road network, security, payment of gratuity and the agriculture sector.

This is part of the recommendations of the organisations while presenting the result of the survey conducted on the last leg of the administration of Dr  Kayode Feyemi.

Addressing Journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the Deputy Director, Justice Development and Peace lnitiative, Sister Agatha Ogbuagu revealed that the survey was a follow up to the programme initiated by JDPI, NUJ and the Ekiti Council Of Elders in 2018 tagged “Manifesto To Agreement Divine”.

According to Sister Agatha, a total number of one thousand one hundred and sixty four (1,164) persons were interviewed across the state using random sampling technique.

She noted that the result of the survey showed that the immediate past government did well in the areas of public health, education and payment of salaries.

However, much were still needed to be done in the areas of road, Electricity,  Security, Water supply, Agriculture, payment of gratuities and job creation as recommended by respondents.

Sister Agatha also noted that the survey was not to criticize any government but to draw the attention of government to areas calling for attention.

In her own words, “the assessment is not in any way targeted to rubbish or praise the government but a veritable means through which successive governments could use to identify areas of strength and weaknesses towards proper planning for improved governance and development of the State.

“Random Sampling Technique was used through Physical and Online interviews for residents of the State”.

“As a responsible institution, we took time to design such an acceptable method which provides questionnaires with options of responses such as, Good, Fair, Poor and in some cases Yes or No.

“There is also option to decline in questions that were not applicable to the interviewers”.

“Statistics of respondents shows that, 225 persons voted in Ado, 53 from Ekiti East, 51 from Ekiti Southwest and 57 from Efon.

“Ekiti West 58, Emure 52, Ido Osi, 97, Gbonyin, 58, Ijero,57, Ikere, 55,  Ikole, 69, Ilejemeje, 52, Ise Orun, 60, Irepodun/ Ifelodun, 62, Moba, 54 and Oye 104 making a total of 1164.

“The motive of this assessment, and other future activities, is to enhance governance processes on the ground of existing mutual civic rights, duties and responsibilities between the government and the governed in a representative democracy”.

“The figures illustrated in this report are indications of the people’s assessment of the government programmes and policies affecting their environment”.

“The terms used for this assessment are carefully chosen to denote the fact that there is always room for improvement, more so that the assessment is not an end in itself in a continued administration. Hence, we have deliberately avoided the use of judgmental terms PASS and FAIL, but adopted the terms, Good, Fair, Poor”.

“As far as these figures are concerned, we say with all sincerity that the processes are devoid of sentiments, biases, political affiliations and favouritism”.

“To this effect, we are open to inquiries as to the validity of these processes and figures as may be necessary at any point in time.

“From all indications, it is observed that the outgone government of Dr John Kayode Fayemi recorded success in the areas of Education and Public Health”.

“However, it is important for the incumbent Governor to adopt pragmatic strategies to improve on the areas where people expressed concern such as road, power, payment of gratuities and Agriculture”, she submitted.
