Ilesanmi Omolayo Retains Position As ADC Chairman In Ekiti

Mr Ilesanmi Omolayo, a strong member of the African Democratic Congress in Ekiti State who had served as the party Chairman, has been re-elected to retain his position as the Chairman of the party for another four-year term to stabilize the crisis in the party at the State level.

In an affirmation Congress held on Friday, May 8th, 2026 in Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti, Ilesanmi Omolayo was unanimously affirmed by the

stakeholders and leaders of the party as well as delegates across the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State for him to continue as the State Chairman of the party to pursue genuine reconciliation in the party and prevent impostors, self-serving politicians and hijackers from completely destroying the vibrant party in the State.

During the affirmation congress, the party members present joined their voices to condemn the action of those who imposed an unknown individual on the party as Chairman without recourse to those who had suffered to build and hold the party together since its existence in the State.

Speaking with Mr Ilesanmi Omolayo at the end of the affirmation congress, he drew the attention of all the security agencies in Ekiti State to the illegality of anyone parading themselves as the party Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in Ekiti State.

On the court judgment favoring the party State Chairmen of the ADC nationwide, himself inclusive, Omolayo noted that the Federal High Court 6 in Abuja has granted him Nine (9) court orders ranging from the declaration that: “by virtue of section 223 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) Article 17 of the ADC Constitution and the final mediation report dated 23rd December, 2023, ruled that the four years tenure of the elected State Executive Committee of the 1st defendant subsists pending the valid conduct of the State Congress.

“That due to a declaration by virtue of article 19(7) and (9) of the Constitution of the 1st defendant, the court ruled that it is the exclusive function of the State Executive Committee to organise the State Congress of the 1st defendant.

“That a declaration by virtue of article 19(7) and (9) of the Constitution of the 1st defendant, described as the ‘caretaker / interim national working committee’ (for any variant thereof), not being the State Executive Committee constituted in accordance with the Constitution of 1st defendant, does not possess the constitutional authority to appoint a congress committee members for the purposes of conducting State Congress of the defendant.

“That a declaration that the purported appointment of the Congress Committee members by the body described as the Caretaker / interim national working committee (or any variant thereof), not being the State Executive Committee constituted in accordance with the 1st defendant’s constitution, just as the court ruled that it is unconstitutional, null and void.

“That the court granted an order nullifying the appointment of the Congress Committee members for the 1st defendant by the body described as the Caretaker / interim national working committee”.

Omolayo however pledged his continuous loyalty to the National  leadership of the party led by Senator David Mark and all the leaders of the party in Ekiti State.

He pleaded with all the ADC members in the State to join hands with him as the State Party Chairman to move the party forward and clinch the Ekiti State Governorship position come June 20th governorship election.

The State Party Chairman, Ilesanmi  Omolayo also called for the cooperation of all the party members in the State, who are willing to contest the Senatorial, House of Representatives and the State Assemblies elections ahead the 2027 general elections to come out and not waste further time.
