INEC Finalizes Plans for Ekiti Governorship Election, Promises Credibility and Inclusion

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is fully prepared to conduct a credible, transparent, and inclusive governorship election in Ekiti State on June 20, 2026.

Speaking to journalists and stakeholders on Monday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Ekiti State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi said the Commission is on track with its election timetable and committed to delivering a free and fair poll.

According to him, INEC is finalizing the voter register, which will be released to political parties soon. The Commission will also announce dates for Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection shortly. 

He appealed to eligible voters to pick up their PVCs, noting that only those with valid cards will be permitted to vote.

Dr. Omoseyindemi disclosed that the recruitment and screening of ad-hoc staff is in progress. Training will follow, focusing on electoral procedures, use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), and result management protocols.

On logistics, he stated that arrangements for procuring, transporting, and storing sensitive and non-sensitive election materials are underway. 

He assured that NEC is also working closely with security agencies to ensure secure distribution across the state.

To boost transparency, results will be transmitted electronically and uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV)..

While acknowledging challenges such as vote buying, political violence, and misinformation, the REC assured that INEC has stepped up security deployment and voter education efforts to mitigate them.

He urged voters, political parties, and the media to uphold peace and act responsibly before, during, and after the election.
