NUT Ekiti to FG: Intensify School Security After Orire Abduction Rescue

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ekiti State Wing, has commended the Federal Government, security agencies, and other stakeholders for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area, Oyo State.

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, NUT Ekiti State Chairman, Comrade Egbeyemi Lawrence Adedeji, thanked the NUT National Headquarters, teachers nationwide, the Ekiti State teaching community, and governments at all levels for their solidarity and swift intervention that ensured the safe release of the victims.

He specifically congratulated the NUT Oyo State Wing and extended the Union’s sympathy to the affected pupils, teachers, families, and school communities, describing the incident as unfortunate.

Comrade Egbeyemi also expressed gratitude to Union members, stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians for their prayers, concern, and support throughout the ordeal.

Reaffirming the NUT’s commitment to the safety and welfare of teachers and learners, he condemned kidnapping and other forms of violence in schools.

He urged government and security agencies to strengthen measures to ensure schools remain safe for teaching and learning.

He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration between the Union, government, and security agencies would prevent future occurrences.
