Ogun East APC Throws Weight Behind Gov Abiodun for 2027 Senate Race

Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District has on Monday unanimously throw their weight behind Governor Dapo Abiodun as consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election in the State.
The resolution was made at a large gathering of party faithful at Adeola Odutola Hall, Ijebu-Ode.
The meeting pulled together key figures from across the district’s nine local governments, including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), former and serving local government chairmen, past and present federal and state lawmakers, all 103 ward councillors, ward and LG executives, women leaders, youth leaders, and the Elders Advisory Council.
Speaking for the stakeholders, former Ogun East, Senator Lekan Mustapha said the decision reflects a shared belief in Abiodun’s capacity to give the district strong representation in the Senate.
He added that party leaders will formally notify the governor and have pledged to purchase his nomination forms for the 2027 contest.
“We will put a body together to deliver this message to our Governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” Mustapha stated, describing Abiodun as a leader with character and intellect.
The Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, called the endorsement “historic and unanimous,” pointing to the governor’s record in governance and party unity as reasons he deserves the seat.
Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo, who represents Odogbolu/Ijebu-Ode/Ijebu North East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said Abiodun’s administration has delivered peace and development statewide.
He expressed confidence that the governor would attract more federal projects to Ogun East if elected to the Senate.
Sagamu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Afolabi Odulate, praised Abiodun’s performance and echoed the district’s appeal for him to accept the senatorial bid.
The hall featured a full turnout of grassroots and elite structures totaling 103 councillors across Ogun East’s nine LGs.
Present at the meeting included Federal lawmakers starting from Adesola Elegbeji, Joseph Adegbesan, and Femi Ogunbanwo.
Also, at the meeting were former Senators: Gbenga Kaka and Lekan Mustapha.
The lists of the Party Executives present are the Ogun East APC Chairman Adedoyin Adeleke, all ward and LG chairmen and Executives.
In attendance were also some Elders and mobilisers such as Kola Ogunjobi, Bayo Dayo, Pegba Otemolu, James Dina, Osibote Amoran, Femi Nuberu, Yinka Adeleye, Jokotade Kasimawo, Toyin Jekami, Kuburat Arigbabu, Aremu Babatunde, Tajudeen Adedeko, Adefowora Akeem, Blessed Ogunsola, Ogunnde Razaki and Sakiru Folorunso, among others.
The show of force from serving legislators, former office holders, and ward-level leaders signals coordinated backing for Abiodun’s anticipated move from Oke-Mosan to the National Assembly in 2027.
