Osun Guber: Be Professional, Uphold Code of Conduct, GOC 2 Division Charges Troops

The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, has charged troops deployed for the Osun State off-cycle governorship election to maintain professionalism and strictly adhere to the code of conduct for election duty.

Major General Mahmuda gave the charge on Friday, 7 August 2026, while addressing troops at the Engineering Construction Command, ECC, Ede, Osun State, ahead of their deployment in support of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.

He described the assignment as critical, noting that it forms part of the Army’s constitutional role of providing aid to civil authority.

According to him, the operation, codenamed “Operation SAFE CONDUCT”, is in support of the NPF, which remains the lead agency for election security in the country.

The GOC clarified that troops are to provide outer cordon security and will only respond when called upon by the police. He directed them to stay clear of polling units and to respond appropriately to any security threat.

“The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, expects nothing short of professional conduct from you in support of the NPF,” he said.

He urged the troops to shun sentiments and bias, and to ensure that their actions are guided solely by national interest. He further charged them to remain disciplined, firm, and to avoid any act of harassment throughout the election period.

“You must act and conduct yourselves as well-trained soldiers of the Nigerian Army. All that is required for the seamless conduct of Operation SAFE CONDUCT has been provided. You must justify the confidence reposed in you,” he added.

Major General Mahmuda also appealed to residents of Osun State to have confidence in the security arrangements put in place, assuring them that no one will be harassed and that the measures are designed to maintain law and order and enable citizens to freely exercise their constitutional rights.
