In a surprising political development, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election.

According to a press statement copied from the PDP National New Media Facebook Page as well as the official facebook page of the People’s Democratic Party, the party said its decision was driven by national interest above partisan politics.

The statement credited President Tinubu for reposing confidence in the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who is a PDP leader. It praised Wike’s performance in the FCT, noting that his infrastructural transformation of Abuja has impacted Nigerians positively.

The party referenced the recent FCT Area Council elections, where it said its candidates stepped down for the APC, adding that the same spirit of cooperation should be extended to the 2027 presidential election in the interest of stability, progress and national unity.

The PDP also acknowledged the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, stating that although they have come with sacrifices, they are aimed at building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria and therefore deserve to be consolidated with a second term.
