The celebration, observed globally on October 5 every year, is being marked in Ekiti State today with a work-free day declared for teachers in public schools by the State Government to enable them participate fully in activities lined up for the day.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, Princess Fajuyi-Olajuyigbe described teachers as the bedrock of societal development and the silent architects of Ekiti’s renowned legacy of excellence in education.
She said Ekiti, as the Fountain of Knowledge, owes its pride of place in Nigeria’s educational history to the dedication, sacrifice and professionalism of its teachers at all levels.
“On this special occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, I join millions of well-wishers across the globe to celebrate our teachers, especially the gallant teachers of Ekiti State. You are nation builders, moulders of character, and guardians of our future. Ekiti’s name as the Fountain of Knowledge remains unshaken because you have continued to labour with uncommon commitment, even in the face of daunting challenges,” she said.
The senatorial hopeful, who is the daughter of the late military hero and former Military Governor of the defunct Western Region, Lt. Col. Francis Adekunle Fajuyi, noted that no meaningful development can be achieved without prioritizing the welfare and training of teachers.
