In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed that the Kwara officers were in Oyo State on official assignment to effect an arrest.

According to him, the officers were acting on a warrant issued by the Upper Magistrate Court in Ilorin over allegations bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. The warrant was reportedly issued after Tani Olohun failed to meet bail conditions earlier granted to him.

DSP Olayinka explained that upon receiving a report of their presence, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, directed the officers to return to their base.

The Commissioner advised that the complainant should approach a competent court in Ibadan, where the alleged offence was committed, in line with due process and the principle of territorial jurisdiction.

The Command said the clarification became necessary to douse tension generated by the video, which captured a confrontation during the attempted arrest.
