Top Liberian Military Personnel Demands Wike’s Suspension

A top Liberian military officer has called for the immediate suspension of Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, over what he described as a grave act of misconduct against military personnel in Abuja.

The officer, in a statement titled “A Call for Immediate Presidential Action Over the Conduct of the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike,” accused the minister of embarrassing the Nigerian Armed Forces and endangering national security through his recent actions.

According to the statement, Wike allegedly left his office and stormed a property where military personnel were stationed, confronting and reportedly assaulting an officer leading a lawful operation.

The minister was said to have been informed of the soldiers’ presence before proceeding to the location, an action the officer described as reckless and unbecoming of a public servant.

The statement further said Wike’s action represented not only personal misconduct but also a direct affront to constituted authority and a violation of established communication channels within the government.

He noted that such conduct undermines the discipline, hierarchy, and dignity of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“No nation that values the sanctity of its institutions and the authority of its Armed Forces can afford to overlook such an open act of provocation against those who defend its sovereignty and peace,” the officer said.

He warned that ignoring such behavior could embolden future acts of indiscipline and weaken the moral authority of the military.

He added that the Armed Forces remain the bedrock of national unity and security, stressing that any attempt to ridicule or undermine their authority must be condemned and decisively addressed.

The officer, therefore, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act swiftly and decisively by suspending the FCT Minister pending the outcome of a thorough and impartial investigation.

He emphasized that national security should never be politicized or subjected to partisan considerations.

He also called on the President to set up a high-powered committee to investigate the incident, noting that such action would restore public confidence and demonstrate that the integrity of the Armed Forces remains sacrosanct.

“Mr. President, the time to act is now. Leadership demands courage, impartiality, and the resolve to place national interest above personal or political relationships. The Armed Forces, whose loyalty and dedication to the nation have never wavered, deserve your protection and decisive action,” the statement added.

However, neither Barrister Nyesom Wike nor the Presidency had responded to the allegations or issued any official statement regarding the matter.
