Ogun Govt Debunks Terrorist Invasion Claims

… Reassures Public on Security

The Ogun State Government has refuted claims circulating online that the state is facing an imminent attack from Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram insurgents, or other terrorist groups, calling the reports “false and unfounded.”

In a statement on Wednesday, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, said security intelligence and reports from relevant agencies confirm that Ogun remains safe and secure. 

He urged residents to disregard misinformation intended to spark panic.

“There is no imminent threat of invasion by any terrorist group. Security agencies and operatives across the state are on high alert, and adequate measures have already been put in place to checkmate any individual or group seeking to foment trouble,” Akinmade stated.

He accused some individuals of exploiting insecurity in other parts of Nigeria to create a climate of fear in Ogun, describing the act as “highly irresponsible” and capable of causing unnecessary anxiety.

According to Akinmade, security agencies have already arrested several people linked to spreading the false reports on social media. They are now facing prosecution, which he said should serve as a warning to others who spread misinformation or incite panic.

The government highlighted ongoing collaboration between security agencies, local authorities, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders. This partnership, it said, has improved intelligence gathering, response time, and overall coordination. 

Akinmade added that the state is fine-tuning strategic, state-specific security measures to ensure lasting peace. The plan aims to deepen ties between conventional security forces and grassroots traditional security structures to boost intelligence sharing, community participation, and early warning systems.

He noted that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has prioritized security through investments in infrastructure, logistics for security agencies, and tech-driven surveillance and crime prevention.

Residents were cautioned against sharing unverified reports and urged to rely only on official government channels and recognized security agencies for information. Akinmade stressed that while vigilance is encouraged, there is no cause for alarm, as all security formations in the state are alert and coordinated.

He reiterated that the government will take decisive action against anyone attempting to disrupt the peace and called for public cooperation with security agencies.
